Oldtimers among us know of course who the Beatles were: John, Paul, George and Ringo formed the fab 4 of pop in the sixties. The heyday of Beatlemania!
If you are younger: know that without the Beatles todays popmusic would sound different.
Their songs have been an inspiration for numerous bands and musicians. You must have heard this one: HELP!
The Beatles were world famous and enjoyed lots of attention.

The beatles here could do with some extra attention and help.
Not only beatles but also bees and wasps, butterflies, flies, dragonflies and spiders.

We are facing a dramatic decline of insectvolume: upto 70% and more over the past decade. This is disturbing as nature and humanity cannot do without them.

Insects play a crucial role in any environment: breaking down waste and returning nutrients. Insects pollinate our crops. Insects are food for birds. Insects eat pest species.

What is causing this decline?
Deforestation, climate change, urbanization, light pollution, noise, radiation, rampant use of pesticides are factors.
It is not a local problem but a global one.

Our friends are small and easily overlooked, hence this enlargement. I ask for a moments reflection.

The beatles here are made of leftover wood including local wood (Amsterdam Stadshout): douglas spar, African paduk, and local elm.
While mounting the insects the tree (elm) was not harmed.

The location is a waste ground. Formerly the Philipsen asphalt and tar factory. The soil is polluted.

Give nature a helping hand and contribute to the preservation of biodiversity:

  • be aware of your footprint
  • buy organic food
  • do not buy plants from garden centers and diy stores; these contain poison.
  • clean up your garbage. E.g. ziggy butts and vapours don't breakdown and also contain poisons.
  • make your (garden) space biofriendly
